The Special Education Program in the Union County School System is designed to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities age 3 through 21. Union County serves approximately 450 students with disabilities. To meet the diverse needs of these students, the system employs 50 special education teachers, 33 paraprofessionals, 2 speech therapists, 1 occupational therapist, and 1 school psychologist. The system also contracts with a number of other agencies to provide additional necessary services to these students.

All students with disabilities have the right to receive a free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment, with their non-disabled peers, as appropriate. The type and degree of services provided are determined through the development of an Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.). A continuum of services is offered for students identified as eligible under State of Georgia Regulations for special education. If you suspect that your child may have a disability, please contact Union County School System's Special Education Office.
